Blacksmith Guide

Hi, good . Azeroth is a vast
land, and it can be a daunting task to differentiate between
the many professions and the buildings or areas in which they
are learned and performed. Blacksmithing and blacksmith shops,
or blacksmiths is one such pair.
This WoW Blacksmith Guide is intended to
shed some light on the shop and the basics of the profession.
The profession itself is looked at more closely elsewhere on
the site.

The blacksmith is a building found everywhere on Azeroth
used for smelting metals collected by the miners. It is in
these shops that weapons and armor are fashioned, many that
cannot be acquire from monster drops or vendors.

As with many aspects of life in WoW, the blacksmiths are
divided between Alliance and Horde. In an Alliance town, the
blacksmith is responsible for the grade and quality of the
steel used in weapons and armor. With training and money,
better skills and materials are gained, leading to better
weapons, shields, and armor. Though a blacksmith is known for
the production of unique building materials and goods, they are
most prized for their abilities in weaponry and armor.
This is of course a WoW Blacksmith Guide, but other
professions depend on the goods produced by the blacksmith.
After all, there is more to Azeroth than just
blacksmithing!
In the Northlands, the Lordaeron smiths produce some of the
finest weapons found in that realm. They don’t always work
alone, though. Dwarf allies will sometimes lend a helping
hand.
Of course, the blacksmith shop is the place to research and
refine steel-forging, but Dwarves also perfect their gunpowder
skills here. The blacksmith is where the Alliance develops
military protection from the Horde.
This WoW Blacksmith Guide would of course be remiss if it
didn't mention that Alliance members aren’t the only WoW
inhabitants that look to the blacksmith for military
superiority. Orcs, the major member race of the Horde, spend
money on hotter forges and better mining capabilities. This
leads to more effective shields and horribly lethal axes. The
metal produced in the Horde blacksmith is also vital to the
Orc’s numerous metal-based buildings.
Blacksmithing Orcs are seasoned fighters; therefore they
understand the importance of new techniques and skills to
improve upon the weapons and armor used to battle the Alliance.
The deadly catapult is dependent upon the steel produced in the
blacksmith shop as well as the experience of the blacksmiths to
improve upon its accuracy and strength.
Blacksmiths are also important to the Elves. The High Elves
used theirs to upgrade fighting units when Arthas Menethil
attempted to attack their capital of Silvermoon as well as
Quel’thalas.
In the Frozen Throne Expansion Campaign for Warcraft III,
the Blood Elves used a similar blacksmith shop.
Using this WoW Blacksmith Guide for background, it is now
time to explore the land of Azeroth, knowing that the weapons
and armor you desire can be found at the blacksmith shop.
